Internet safety is a huge issue with many parents today. Not only is it hard for them to keep up with emerging tweets and technologies, but it’s near impossible for them to monitor what their children do online. We recently wrote 20 articles and a Squidoo Lens for a Web Safety blog network.
I’m sure many of you have stumbled upon FreelanceSwitch and their Rockstar Freelancer guide – and if you haven’t I highly recommend you head over to their website and pick up a copy. Having read it a handful of times, I’m sad to say that they didn’t include a “must have” freelance survival kit which new and seasoned freedom fighters can reference in times of boredom and/or panic.
Luckily for you we’ve decided to take the initiative!
Now there once was a time (before I was born) when the term “freelance” wasn’t exactly a parent-pleaser. Most people just assumed you were lazy and refused to get a real job like everyone else. In 2009, though many still don’t quite understand what the term actually means, I feel as if a new found respect has developed for those of us who prefer to breakdance to the beat of our own drum – or someone elses drum – as long as it sounds good!
In no particular order, here are my 10 Must Have Items For Every Rockstar Freelancer:
- A working laptop (PC or Mac)
- A copy of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
- A 12 year, single malt bottle of Scotch
- A comfortable pair of jogging pants or board shorts
- Peanut butter, jam and bread
- A whiteboard or something similar
- An autographed picture of “Sugar” Ray Leonard
- A Twitter panic button
- An Internet connection
Please feel free to ask any questions pertaining to the items I have listed above. As I have given this topic much thought, explaining my choices won’t be difficult at all.
What are your 10 must have Rockstar Freelancer items? Post them below or trackback from your blog.

So it’s been a couple of weeks from conception to birth, and though I know it may seem like a short amount of time, the reality is that once you’ve launched a start-up once – you learn the ropes and can do it much quicker in the future.
Yes, we are planning for WordBoo.com to become the epitome of what a web 2.0 article writing service should be like, but in all fairness, the design and aesthetic functions of our client environment (the website) are just as important.
As we’re getting ready to go live and launch our worldwide marketing madness, we’re heavily analyzing the following factors:
- Branding presence
- Website usability
- Navigation scheme
- On site linking structure
- Awesomeness
- Payment integration
- Content clarity
- Keyword density
As this might sound like gibberish to some of you, it’s really not all that different from building a house. For example, you could compare the navigation scheme of a website or blog to the floor plan and placement of appliances in your home. I think it would be safe to say that one wouldn’t build a house with the kitchen on the upper floor, the dining room in the basement and the bedrooms by the front door. That would just be plain silly!
Equally with a website or blog, you wouldn’t put your main navigation in the footer, with all of your advertising off to one corner and your content opposite. This would only promote confusion and an overall crappy conversion rate
All in all, we’re aiming to create a vibrant, easy to navigate environment that our clients can become familiar with. We want the content to be organized with minimal distraction and engage the passerby’s at every opportunity possible.
Essentially, we’re creating a “home” for wordseekers!
Cheers,
WordBoo
We worked on a guitar niche blog network – and wanted our client to get some good rankings by harnessing the linking power of a targeted Squidoo Lens. After finding a suitable url, we went ahead and published some unique, targeted content that linked back to the both of the guitar blogs giving it great leverage and boosting the indexing process.
Article marketing is a great way to get traffic and back links to your web properties. We were approached to do a single article that would be guaranteed to perform – and it sure did. Their website now gets almost 500 unique visitors per month from the article and is ranked for some high traffic keywords. That was a cool project!
We had the pleasure of writing out some great targeted content for a really cool strawberry niche site. Along side content for the blog – we also wrote out content for a Squidoo lens as well as a couple of Ezine Article submissions.
